Hergert Numbers on LSD!
I participated in the Bike the Drive event in Chicago where 22,000 cyclists took to a 15-mile stretch of Lake Shore Drive (a.k.a. "LSD"). It was closed to car traffic from 5:30-10:00am and you could ride up and down the lake shore as many times as you wanted (or could) during that time. I managed one complete circuit of the route which calculated out to about 33 miles including riding between the event and the train station.
They had three rest stops fully stocked with complimentary snacks & drinks for the riders. They also had roving bike techs to help anyone with breakdowns along the way. The event benefits Active Transportation Alliance which advocates for better biking, walking, and mass transit options in the Chicagoland area.
I had a great time and will definitely be back again next year!
